Report: Warwickshire v Cardiff UCCE, 2nd XI One-Day Cup
A powerhouse batting performance earned Warwickshire a 23-run victory (DLS) over Cardiff UCCE in their opening Second XI One-Day Cup game at Moseley CC.
Batting first, the Bears amassed 282 all out based upon an excellent platform set down by Hamza Shaikh (69, 87 balls, seven fours, one six) and Adam Hose (96, 88 balls, nine fours, four sixes).
The pair added 150 in 25 overs for the second wicket, after which the scoreboard was kept moving briskly by Chris Benjamin (39, 32 balls) and Ethan Brookes (23, 18 balls).
An impressive opening spell of 6-2-15-1 from Manraj Johal then kept a brake on the early stages of Cardiff’s reply before opener Ahmed’s dangerous, run-a-ball 41 was cut off at the cameo stage by Jake Lintott.
The spinner went on to take further crucial wickets as the students replied with 234 for eight off 45.5 overs. Lintott finished with four for 58 and fellow spinner Jake Bethell took two for 33 while paceman Liam Norwell delivered eight overs on his way back towards fitness after a back spasm.
