Report: Bears v Gloucestershire, Women's T20 - Semi-Final

Dominic Ostler’s side eased past Gloucestershire in the opening semi-final at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground to book their place in the Group Three final.

It was a dominant bowling display from the Bears, led by four wickets from Anisha Patel, as Gloucestershire were dismissed for just 68 off the final ball of the innings.

Patel, who was playing her 100th game for the Club, finished with figures of 4-1-7-4. Fast bowler Issy Wong (2/7) got the hosts off to the perfect start, getting her first of two wickets in the opening over.

In reply, the Bears got off to a slow start at 12 for two with Wong and Captain Marie Kelly both departing early.

But a 26-run partnership between Gwenan Davies (15) and Thea Brookes allayed any fears forming a partnership of 26, with Brookes (36*) and Bethan Ellis (9*) seeing the game out reaching the target in the 13th over.

Bears Women will now face Somerset in the final at 4.30pm.

Preview: Bears v Gloucestershire, Women's T20

Bears Women intend to finish their season on a high when they take part in the Vitality Women’s County T20 Finals Day at Portland Road on Sunday (8 May).

Having won their group in impressive fashion, Dominic Ostler’s side now will participate in a Finals Day with the same opposition as they played in the group.

The Bears kick off the day at Portland Road with a semi-final against Gloucestershire at 10.30am. Somerset then meet Cricket Wales in the second semi at 12.30pm with hopefully the Bears waiting for them in the final at 4.30pm .

“It would be great to win the tournament,” Ostler said. “The girls played some very strong cricket with bat and ball to win the group and now we just want to take the momentum on from there.

“We had a really good day down at Gloucester last week. Marie Kelly’s batting was exceptional with a 15-ball half-century, but there were a lot of other good performances around that. The regional tournament starts next week and our girls will go into that with a lot of confidence after playing so well in these opening games and hopefully the Sparks can carry on where the Bears leave off, with some wins.”

Entry is completely free at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground from 10am ahead of the opening semi-final.

There is newly installed seating area within the ground and toilets are available on-site. Teas and coffees are also available to purchase inside the Pavilion. Limited food will also be available to purchase from the Pavilion once the players have eaten.
