Report: Birmingham Phoenix Men v Trent Rockets

Birmingham Phoenix Men could only watch helplessly from the dressing room as their match against Trent Rockets was ended by a washout at Edgbaston.

Rockets are in confident mood after starting their campaign with a six-run win over Southern Brave but their frustration matched that of the spectators as wave after wave of rain swept across Birmingham.

Every time Gary Barwell and his groundstaff team, during the occasional breaks in the downpour, started to get the ground approaching dry enough for cricket, another deluge arrived.

Sam Hain, top-scorer in Rockets’ opener, was thus denied a chance to shine on the ground that he has lit up so many times in other formats for the Bears.

Phoenix, who have now had both their opening two fixtures end with ‘no result’ due to rain, will be hoping for better luck when they visit Manchester Originals at Emirates Old Trafford on Monday. Rockets will aim to be firing again against Northern Superchargers at Trent Bridge on Wednesday.

Phoenix are back at Edgbaston on Thursday to face an in-form Welsh Fire team, with only limited tickets left via The Hundred website.
