One of the fastest scorers in world cricket, Glenn Maxwell has lit up the limited-overs formats around the world. He’s now set to make Edgbaston his home this summer.
The 34-year-old has penned a deal with the Bears for the Vitality Blast and will join after his IPL stint at the end of May.
The middle-order batter has the power to rival anyone in the game, while his ability to make unconventional shots appear routine makes him hard to stop. At his best he can change a game in moments.
“It’s an amazing signing,” First Team Coach Mark Robinson said. “He’s one of the fastest scorers in world cricket – and I’m sure he’ll be a favourite with Bears fans.”
After making an inauspicious T20 debut back in 2010 for Victoria, he has gone on to make over 350 appearances and star for teams and franchises all over the world.
His tally of 8,451 runs to date is the 24th most by anyone in this format. He boasts a strike-rate of 151, which is the highest on this list of top run scorers, and a top-score of 154 not out off just 64 balls accomplished last January for Melbourne Stars – a BBL record.
For Australia, he has played every format at the highest level including 98 IT20s scoring 2,159 runs at a strike-rate of 151, hitting 106 sixes along the way.
With three IT20 hundreds, only Rohit Sharma has more T20 centuries on the international stage than the Australian.
Nickname ‘The Big Show’, he’s no stranger to the biggest stages and he played a leading role in Australia’s triumphant Men’s T20 World Cup campaign in 2021, including an unbeaten 28 off 18 balls in the Final against New Zealand.
He remains one of the most sought-after players in world cricket and recently earned a bid of £1.3million in the recent IPL auction while he will also return to London Spirit for this year’s The Hundred competition.
