Edgbaston Stadium has been shortlisted for the ESG Award at the 2025 miaList Awards, which celebrate outstanding achievements across the UK meetings and events sector.
The ESG category recognises organisations that have demonstrated meaningful progress in environmental, social, and governance practices.
Over the past 12 months, Edgbaston has strengthened its position as one of the UK’s most sustainable sports and events venues. Key initiatives include:
Environmental impact: The stadium is now powered entirely by 100% renewable electricity, has reduced waste by 33% since 2019, and cut annual energy usage by more than 21,000 kWh through LED lighting upgrades. Single-use plastic alternatives have been eliminated at scale, while the introduction of a Drone Show has provided a visually stunning, low-impact alternative to traditional fireworks.
Community benefit: Every event booking contributes to the Warwickshire Cricket Foundation, which supports over 100 schools across Birmingham, delivering sport, education, and opportunities to thousands of children. In 2023, 1,500 local schoolchildren attended women’s cricket fixtures at Edgbaston, many experiencing live sport for the first time.
Responsible growth: The integration of ESG principles has supported commercial growth, with sustainability practices helping attract high-profile clients and boosting year-on-year revenue.
Speaking on the award, Angela Sanders, Head of C&E Sales at Edgbaston, said: “Being recognised for this award validates the incredible efforts of the entire Edgbaston team, who live and breathe our sustainability and community ethos every day.
“For us, ESG isn’t a box-ticking exercise, it’s the foundation of how we operate, the way we serve our clients and community, and how we plan for the future.”
