Edgbaston was delighted to host the unique Birmingham Horror Convention on Saturday 4 February with the event attracting over 100 traders, famous actors and authors as well thousands of horror fans. Held in the Exhibition Hall at one of the world’s most renowned stadiums, horror fans were able to enjoy a unique convention and be part of a special experience.
We caught up with Victor Wight, the Event Organiser, who gives us his views on the event and Edgbaston’s brilliant facilities.
“The main objectives of the event is to celebrate horror films, books and merchandise and provide an outlet that was specific for the needs of horror fans. The show also allows us to explore other exciting avenues such as SFX, make-up, independent films (which we will be showing in October) and guest talks.

Edgbaston was chosen as our venue due to it’s size and location. We were looking for a venue that could support us with both. It’s capacity and facilities are perfect for the size of our show and it really helps that we can offer free parking to our visitors too.

It was hugely successful due to good planning, perfect array of guests and a wide choice of traders offering the most sought after and unusual items. Our goals are to continue bringing over US guests (most of them premiering for the first time here) and to expand the show as much as we can, but within the theme of horror.
The staff and organisation team at Edbgaston Stadium never fail to fulfil every request I put in front of them. They are such a courteous and professional team. We have quadrupled the amount of business we conduct with them for 2017 and can only see this growing year on year. Perfect setting, perfect team, perfect events.”

Maria Clune, Head of Conference and Events Sales, said: “We were delighted that Geeky Comics once again decided to host their brilliant event at Edgbaston and the turnout from horror fans was absolutely brilliant – thank you to Victor and his team for all their hard work.
The event was a massive success and we look forward to welcoming Geeky Comics back to our stadium for the Comic Convention and the UK Conclave in April and the return of the Horror Convention which we will be hosting in October.”
