Achieving Net Zero by 2030

To achieve our net zero target, we are making improvements across business functions that consider all aspects of our operations.

Although our main focuses will continue to be carbon footprinting, waste management, energy & renewables and wellbeing, we will be completing in depth analysis of our corporate processes, travel, biodiversity and much more.

With constant monitoring and reporting we will continue to strive for a sustainable future. Find out more about Our Sustainability Strategy below.

“We have grand ambitions to become a Net Zero venue by the end of 2030 and are acutely aware that further work and long-term planning is required to achieve this goal.”

Increasing Recycling & Improving Waste Management

We aim to recycle as much as possible and operate a zero waste to landfill policy.

  • All our non-recyclable waste get sold on to make RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel)
  • Any unused edible food, that meet all hygiene requirements, are distributed to local charities to feed homeless people around Birmingham
  • Since 2019, we has significantly reduced the amount of waste produced by redesigning our food & drink packaging to make them fully compostable
  • Since 2016, reusable e-cups have been adopted and all delegates are offering stationery made exclusively from recycled materials
  • In 2023, we introduced dedicated food bins to segregate our waste, reducing general waste and reducing food contamination of recyclable materials

Working through strategic partnerships, we use electricity from renewable sources and deliver energy saving projects.

  • Working with Amber Energy as part of an energy efficiency partnership, we are identifying and delivering projects with the aim of reducing our carbon footprint and energy costs
  • In 2022, we began Phase 1 of our LED lighting installation switchover throughout the stadium with an estimated saving of 21,348kWh in Year 1

Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

We are proud of our home in the heart of the Midlands and strive to source our produce from local, like-minded suppliers.

  • In 2022, we met our goal of freshly preparing over 95% of food and drink on-site at Edgbaston and continue to strive for more
  • We no longer purchase any produce that has been air-freighted
  • Our chefs have significantly reduced the amount of red meat on our menus and opted for a more plant-forward approach
  • The introduction of our own Edgbaston Garden on-site has allowed us to begin growing fruit and vegetables for use in our kitchens and across our menus

  • We are developing an employee education programme to drive responsible practices and lower carbon initiatives
  • Working with key travel partners in the region, we are creating an expanding portfolio of cleaner, public transport alternatives to get to Edgbaston
  • Our menus are created with health and wellbeing in mind to drive sensible fueling of events and keeping delegates alert
