Report: Hain fires double ton as Bears defeat Derbyshire
Sam Hain’s double hundred helped Warwickshire end their pre-season friendly schedule with a comprehensive 165-run victory over Derbyshire.
Coming in at 2 for 1, Hain took just a single from the first 14 balls he faced and reached his 100 in 99 balls.
But once he passed the century mark the 23-year-old removed the shackles, firing a further 105 runs in just 36 balls with only two of those dots.
It was an impressive barrage of striking as the England Lions batsman found 28 boundaries (18 fours, 10 sixes) with 17 of those in his final 35 balls.
In support, Will Rhodes (56 off 53) helped provide a partnership of 98 (92 balls) before Hain and Liam Banks (76 off 47) put on a devastating spell of 208 runs from 100 balls to reach a big total of 388 for six.
With Derbyshire looking for a strong start, Craig Miles got the early breakthrough when he forced Luis Reece to find Will Rhodes at first slip for four.
Billy Godleman put on partnerships of 45 (37 balls) and 104 (98 balls) with Wayne Madsen and Matt Critchley respectively, but when he was stumped by Alex Mellor for 59 (77 balls) as he tried to attack Alex Thomson, Derbyshire fell from 176 for four to 223 all out in 12 overs.
Thomson got Tom Lace for a duck two balls later, with Rhodes removing Alex Hughes who edged behind to Mellor and Harvey Hosein who was caught by Miles.
Aaron Thomason returned for a fresh spell and bowled Anuj Dal and Ravi Rampaul with an excellent run out from Banks sandwiched between.
