Report: Warwickshire v Worcestershire, Pre-Season Friendly

A remarkable effort from the groundstaff ensured Warwickshire were able to build on their pre-season tour to Cape Town with some more time in the middle.
A huge credit must go to Gary Barwell and his troops who have worked tirelessly over the weekend to ensure 90 overs were possible at Edgbaston, whilst 100 were played at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground from one end on day one of the three-day friendly.
Batting first at Edgbaston, Alex Davies led the Bears with 64 (11×4, 1×6) to help reach 207 from their 45 overs. In reply, the Worcestershire closed on 173/5, as Olly Hannon-Dalby, our leading wicket-taker in First Class cricket last season, finished with 3/39 from eleven overs.
A few miles west at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground, the visitors made 217/4 dec from their 50 overs with Danny Briggs also taking 3/39. The spinner, who is returning from knee surgery, followed up with 58* (53 balls, 10×4, 2×6) alongside Academy batter Daniyal Khan who added 56* (134 balls, 4×4, 1×6) for a partnership of 80.
With the forecast looking bleak tomorrow morning, plenty of fingers will be crossed as both sides hope to add more overs in the bank.
