Second XI Report: Bears v Derbyshire
Ashton Agar starred with the bat as the Birmingham Bears preparations for the upcoming Vitality Blast continued with a 25 run victory over Derbyshire.
Agar, who has been playing in the UK with Australia A, fired 84 runs from 47 balls (four fours, seven sixes) to help the Bears reach a strong total of 181/3.
The 25-year-old’s attacking prowess was clearly on show, but he was well supported by Matt Lamb (45) and Alex Mellor (25*) with excellent partnerships of 79 and 67.
Derbyshire’s chase looked promising at 85/2 on the halfway mark but Ian Westwood’s side fought back reducing the home side to just 39 runs in their final seven overs with five wickets falling.
George Garrett and Lamb were the pick of the bowlers, both taking three wickets in their four allotted overs at an economy rate of four and five respectively.
