Report: Derbyshire v Warwickshire, Second XI One Day
A sensational unbroken eighth-wicket stand of 162 between Keil van Vollenhoven and Henry Brookes blasted Warwickshire 2nd XI to a three wicket win over Derbyshire at Derby.
In a 50-over game arranged following the washout of the scheduled four-day contest, the home side piled up 291 for seven and looked well-placed for victory when the Bears’ reply hit 131 for seven.
But Van Vollenhoven (82 not out, 88 balls, seven fours, one six) and Brookes (87 not out, 56 balls, eight fours, three sixes) smashed their side to a remarkable win with five balls to spare.
Ryan Sidebottom and Van Vollenhoven had led the Bears’ bowling with two wickets apiece while Jake Bethell contributed a stunning caught-and-bowled, clutched inches from the ground, to remove Anuj Dal.
The Bears’ reply then dipped to 35 for three after six overs. Ethan Brookes began a recovery with 30 from 41 balls, but at 131 or seven, the Bears needed something spectacular from the lower order. Leg-spinning all-rounder Van Vollenhoven and Bears academy product Brookes provided it with a stunning stand of 162 from 123 balls.
