Report: Second XI Trophy vs MCC Young Cricketers
Warwickshire are well-placed to qualify for the semi-finals of the Second XI Trophy despite losing their final group match, by 22 runs, to MCC Young Cricketers at Edgbaston today.
The defeat left them with a record of four wins from six games and only a colossal swing in run-rate from other teams, who still have games to play, could deny them a place in the last four. It is likely that they will face a home semi-final, which would take place at Moseley on Friday June 15.
Put in, MCC Young Cricketers totalled 214 for eight from their 50 overs, a decent recovery having been 71 for six. Sunny Singh took four for 25 and Adnan Ghaus three for 38 but Sussex’s Fynn Hudson-Prentice gave his side something to bowl at with 85 from 125 balls (three fours, three sixes).
Warwickshire then lost openers Liam Banks and Andy Umeed with just 18 on the board. Matt Lamb struck 40 (57 balls, one four, two sixes) before the innings slipped to 116 for six. Alex Mellor (42 not out, 102 balls, two fours) and Chris Wright (24, 40 balls) added 51 but after Wright’s departure the last three wickets fell quickly to leave the Bears 192 all out.
