Report: Bears v Gloucestershire, Second XI
Chris Woakes took a wicket on his Bears return as the Second XI cruised to a four-wicket victory over Gloucestershire at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground.
The all-rounder finished with figures of 4 – 0 – 21 – 3 as the Bears bowling unit restricted the hosts for 153/8, but his impressive come back was overshadowed by a homegrown teenager.
It’s not often that’s written, but credit to opener Theo Wylie who struck 66 off just 32 balls.
The 18-year-old, who added 52 in his previous Second XI outing, reached the total with eight fours and five sixes, showcasing his impressive talent on a day where he was recognised by his country.
During the first innings, news was released that Wylie, alongside leg-spinner Taz Ali, were being called up to the England U19s squad to face Sri Lanka this summer.
Despite losing late wickets, Bears chased down the total in 16.4 overs to secure their second win in the competition. Their next fixture takes place against Worcestershire at Bromsgrove School on Tuesday 18 June.
