We were very excited to see two of the Warwickshire Access team to players take home awards, at Warwickshire End of Season Evening on Friday 6th October 2023.

Yasir Ghalib took the Players Player of the Season award. Yasir had an outstanding season leading the team and country in runs in the Super 9’s. His average off 88 was also a team high. Along with his ability, Yasir always arrives with a smile on his face and his a integral member of the group.

“Yasir had a great year, it wasn’t just the amount of runs he scored, but the speed at which he scored them. He kept the score rolling, meaning players down the order could play themselves in.  We saw some really good middle and lower order innings thanks to Yas.” said Rob Eynon.

Our other award winner was Louis Blair, who took home the Steve Carter Cup, an award given out for endeavor and leadership. Louis demonstrated what it meant to be a good team mate and leader. Along with opening the bowling and scoring some handy runs in the Super 9’s, Louis also helped lead our Super 1’s in numerous festivals. Louis also took on a captain’s role during our Lord’s Taverners Residential trip to Avon Tyrell. He helped the group make up their beds and kept them on time for all of their activities.

Louis Blair Award EOS Awards 2023

“Louis is not only an emerging cricketer but a brilliant young man to work with and has developed a lot in the last 12 months. Whilst his cricket has improved, his confidence has grown and he now takes on responsibility even when he doesn’t have to. Seeing him with the residential group for a couple of days really showed me that he encapsulates everything about what the Steve Carter Cup stands for.” said Rob Eynon.

It’s fantastic to see the increase in numbers of participants- disability cricket is really growing and it’s a massive plus for the county to have a thriving disability section. The bulk of the team have worked together for a while and are a real cohesive unit. It is also great that we’ve had new players come in and contribute early in their Warwickshire careers. The hard work and commitment they show- culminating in winning the Super 9s Midlands cup- is testament to that
