Bears Roadshow enjoyed a third successive outing as Stratford-upon-Avon Cricket Club hosted a community fun day and T20 match versus a Warwickshire Cricket League select XI.
Before the match, Bears players threw themselves into a variety of cricket activities running across the ground helping out alongside the Warwickshire Cricket Foundation coaches.
Players helped to coach Stratford’s junior players, while a boys and girls softball festival took place on opposite sides of the pitch.
Rob Eynon, Disability Cricket Development Officer, was also present coaching a Super 1s session at the Stratford Access Hub, which runs every Wednesday afternoon.
Jake Lintott delivered some top-tier leg spin coaching in the nets to Stratford players, while Hamza Shaikh opened the batting in one of the girl’s softball games.
Gabby Basketter, Women & Girls Club Development Officer, said “It was a great afternoon of cricket, we had 16 girls, we divided them into two teams and had some competitive games of cricket.”
“Events like this are brilliant for providing opportunity to youngsters but also seeing new girls playing cricket that we may never have seen before out in clubs.”
The afternoon was followed by a T20 game between the Bears and a Warwickshire League select XI.
Warwickshire posted 270-7 from their 20 overs with Hamza Shaikh (59) and Rob Yates (52) both scoring half centuries.
In reply, the Warwickshire XI finished on 138-8 as Hassan Farooq (29 not out) top scored while Stratford’s Osian Catlin (14) hit two fours in a useful knock.
Ed McCabe, Head of Recreational Cricket and Operations, said “It’s always very rewarding to work alongside the county club for events like this in the community.”
“We are looking forward to more events like this in the future. Days like this show people what Cricket is all about; bringing it into the community and providing opportunities for children to meet players and ask them questions.”
