The Warwickshire Cricket Foundation hosted the second Girls Development Centre Programme at Moseley Cricket Club for three days earlier this week.

Girls from the U12 and U14 age groups gathered at Moseley Cricket Club in August for a two-day observation. Those who performed well were invited to the camp this week.

The development centre programme aims to bridge the gap between club and pathway cricket.

Throughout three days, the girls worked on their batting, bowling, and fielding skills while competing in cricket games against each other.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the girls received their t-shirts and engaged in live lanes, fielding rotations, and a group fielding drill before playing a 20 over game.

On the final day, the girls headed to the nets to participate in bowling drills and have tactical discussions regarding field placements, followed by a 16-over game.

For the second consecutive year, the all-female coaching staff included Ria Fackrell, a current professional cricketer for Central Sparks, and Gwenan Davies, a former Birmingham Phoenix player. All coaches have previous county pathway playing experience at both youth and women’s levels.

Gabby Basketter, Women and Girls’ Development Officer said: “It’s fantastic to have a great number of girls involved in this programme who have access to high-quality coaching from coaches who have a great of experience of the girls and women’s game in Warwickshire, but also from people the girls can look up to as role models.”

“This year the programme needed to expand to accommodate all the girls who had shown interest. This time round we’re seeing lots of new girls attending the camp, which is what the programme aims to do.”

“Girls Development Centre Cricket is now a permanent fixture on our Women and Girls calendar throughout the year, which is great for providing an opportunity for girls to play with and learn from the best players out there in the club game.”

We encourage all participants over the seven days to submit video footage for the Bears Youth Pathway. Click here to learn more and submit your entry.
