On Thursday, December 12th, the Warwickshire Cricket Foundation hosted the Glow in the Dark Cricket Festival.
Six schools participated in a round-robin style tournament held at Bordesley Green Girls’ School, offering plenty of opportunities for everyone to play.
Glow in the Dark cricket is part of the Warwickshire Cricket Foundation’s Core Cities programme. This fast-paced version of the game is played in the dark, using UV-reactive equipment and clothing to create an exciting glowing effect.
Each school received bibs, sweatbands, and face paint in different fluorescent colours, while the stumps, balls, and bats were taped to enhance the glow effect.
The Glow in the Dark cricket festival for participating schools followed a half-term of cricket coaching provided by the Warwickshire Cricket Foundation.
On the day, we spoke to Maya, a participant, who said “Glow in the dark cricket was really cool and brought everyone together. I felt more confident playing in the dark.”
Sara, another participant, said, “I don’t typically play cricket at school; I come to be with my friends. But now I know I will be playing much more so I can come again.”
