Earlier this week, we hosted the first round of the ECB Girls U13 and U15 Schools Indoor Competition at Action Indoor Sports in Erdington.
Organised by Zak Sinkinson, the Secondary School Development Officer, schools from across Warwickshire and Birmingham took part in the U13 and U15 girls’ competitions, all competing for a spot in the regional finals scheduled for early May.
Out of over 20 entries this year, six schools from each age group participated in an exciting knockout-style tournament.
The games were played with teams of eight, and each innings consisted of eight overs. The competition followed traditional cricket rules, with players being out if they were dismissed.
In the U13 competition, the final saw King Edward VI High School for Girls face off against Princethorpe College, with King Edward VI High School for Girls cruising towards a comfortable victory.
In the U15 competition, the match between Solihull School and King Edward VI High School for Girls was an exciting one, coming down to the final ball. King Edward VI High School for Girls needed two runs to win but fell just short of crossing the line.
Other counties are now nearing the end of hosting their county stages, paving the way for the regional finals next month.
The regional finalists will then compete at the National Finals, held at Lord’s in May.
After making the trip to London last year, Solihull School will be striving to earn a return to Lord’s for the second year in a row.
Congratulations to Solihull School and King Edward VI High School for Girls, and best of luck in the regional finals next month.
