Yesterday marked the conclusion of the Women’s Indoor Leagues in Birmingham and Nuneaton, with a semi-final knockout stage followed by finals.
Over the past 10 weeks, teams have been competing in the hopes of claiming silverware for their clubs.
Both finals displayed some impressive striking throughout the matches.
In the Birmingham indoor league, the morning action kicked off with Moseley Ashfield CC facing Tanworth and Camp Hill CC, while Kings Heath CC took on Brummies.
The final saw Moseley Ashfield CC face off against Kings Heath CC, with Ashfield emerging victorious and taking home the silverware.
In the evening, we moved to Nuneaton for the first two semi-finals, which saw Bedworth CC take on No Balls Cricket and Copsewood CC meet Newdigate CC.
The final turned into a competitive clash between Copsewood and Bedworth, with Bedworth needing 27 runs to win at the halfway point.
They comfortably chased down the target, winning by more than double.
This marks the third consecutive year Bedworth have claimed the indoor league title, solidifying their reputation as tough competitors – a remarkable achievement.
Women’s and Girls’ Club Development Officer, Gabby Basketter, commented, “With the growth of women’s and girls’ cricket in the Nuneaton area, we’ve been able to run a second indoor league this year, allowing more clubs to get involved.”
“In 2024, we had 5 teams in our Indoor League, and this year we had 17.”
“This growth reflects the hard work, dedication, and support of volunteers involved in supporting women’s and girls’ cricket.”
“This year, we’ve supported eight female umpires from the November umpiring course by providing them with the opportunity to gain umpiring experience. I’d like to thank each of the eight umpires who have dedicated their time to help ensure the smooth running of the leagues.”
Congratulations to both Moseley Ashfield and Bedworth!
