Earlier this week, we hosted the opening round of the Chance to Shine Street Competition, featuring U12 boys, U15 boys, and girls, spread over two days.

The two-day event was held at the Doug Ellis Leisure Centre in Perry Barr, kicking off on Monday morning with the U12 boys, followed by the U15 boys in the afternoon. The competition resumed on Tuesday with an exciting day of girls’ cricket.

Part of the Chance to Shine Street programme, which aims to grow the game in urban communities, the competition brought together teams from various Street hubs, each representing their local area and battling it out for a place in the next stage of the competition.

Teams competed in a six-a-side format, ensuring every player had the chance to bat and bowl. Matches were fast-paced, with each innings made up of 20 balls, allowing for plenty of cricket throughout the day.

U12 Boys

Aston, Sparkhill, Leamington, and Saltley hubs were all invited to compete on Monday morning.

After a strong showing and winning the majority of their matches, Aston finished as overall winners and will progress to the next round in Wolverhampton next month.

Sparkhill and Leamington also progress to the next round.

U15 Boys

Leamington, Handsworth, Bordesley, Saltley, and Sparkhill all took part.

Leamington finished as winners and progress to regional finals with Handsworth and Bordesley also progressing into the next round.

Girls

Waverley, Bordesley Green A, Bordesley Green B, Leamington, and Moseley all took part.

Moseley finished as winners and progress to regional finals with Leamington also progressing into the next round.

The boys’ regional round is set to take place on Tuesday 27th May, while the girls will advance directly to the national finals, on Thursday 14th August.
