Yesterday, we welcomed 55 girls from two local secondary schools to Edgbaston Stadium yesterday for a Colour Cricket event aimed at introducing more young people to the sport in an accessible and engaging way.
The session, delivered on the Colts Ground at Edgbaston, gave the girls the opportunity to take part in a round-robin cricket tournament, designed to be inclusive and enjoyable regardless of prior experience.
The morning began with the girls being placed into teams and throwing coloured powder to decorate their T-shirts in team colours, creating a personalised keepsake to take home.

Both schools remained at Edgbaston to watch the Metro Bank One Day fixture between the Bears Women and Lancashire Women, providing many of the girls with their first opportunity to experience live women’s cricket at a professional venue.
The morning forms part of the Foundation’s wider work to grow participation in cricket among underrepresented groups and to provide opportunities for young people across the region to engage with the game in new and accessible formats.

Jess Ward, Womens & Girl’s Community Manager said:
“Colour Cricket is a great way to make the game feel more welcoming and accessible, especially for young people who might not have played before. It was fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves. The paint, the cricket, and the energy on the day really showed how sport can bring people together.”
The Warwickshire Cricket Foundation continues to deliver a range of community programmes aimed at making cricket more inclusive and reflective of the areas it serves.
