The Bears Roadshow continued its summer journey with a special stop at Wellesbourne Cricket Club, helping the club mark its 200th anniversary.

Over 200 people gathered to enjoy the cricket, with activities for youngsters throughout the afternoon followed by a showcase match between a Bears Mixed Academy XI and a Wellesbourne Invitational XI.

Before the match, Bears players teamed up with Foundation coaches to deliver a range of cricket activities across the ground, while Wellesbourne’s junior cricketers enjoyed valuable practice time in the nets.

The Bears Mixed Academy XI put on an impressive display in front of a lively home crowd as part of the anniversary celebrations.

After being invited to bat, the Bears posted a competitive total of 157/8 in their 20 overs. Isaac Maddy led the way with a quick-fire 37 off 20 balls, while Ava Clive and Hamza Khan contributed valuable middle-order runs to keep the innings moving.

In response, the Wellesbourne Invitational XI showed determination throughout their chase, with Ben Blakemore top-scoring with 37 and Nathan Edwards providing solid support with 29 runs. However, crucial wickets from Isaac Maddy and Jack Pidgeon slowed the momentum.

Wellesbourne were bowled out for 134 in the 20th over, handing the Bears a 23 run win.

Andy Wyles, Head of Clubs and Leagues, praised the occasion and highlighted the importance of bringing county and recreational cricket together: “The whole ethos of the Roadshow games is to get Warwickshire County Cricket Club into the wider cricketing community. That’s why we want to showcase junior cricket in the lead-up to the game and then deliver a competitive match itself. It was great to see so many people from the local community supporting the event.”

A huge thank you goes to Wellesbourne Cricket Club for their outstanding hospitality and for hosting a fantastic day of cricket.
