This year’s Women’s Indoor League season came to a conclusion at Edgbaston Stadium, as teams from across Warwickshire competed on finals day to claim silverware for their clubs.
After 10 weeks of indoor cricket leagues hosted across Nuneaton, Birmingham and South Warwickshire, this year marked a record breaking milestone, with more teams participating in women’s indoor league cricket in the county than ever before.
The day produced some fantastic cricket throughout, with Bedworth Cricket Club ultimately being crowned champions for the third consecutive year, a remarkable achievement that cements their status as the county’s dominant force in women’s indoor cricket.
Moseley Ashfield Cricket Club claimed second place, with Kineton Cricket Club coming third.
Throughout, female umpires once again played a key role in the smooth running of the leagues, continuing to gain valuable experience on the field.
Women’s and Girls’ Club Development Officer, Gabby Basketter, said: “It’s been a fantastic season for women’s indoor cricket in Warwickshire. To see a record number of teams competing across the county this year is a real testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved, from the players and clubs to the volunteers and umpires who give their time to make it all possible. With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup approaching, we’re expecting even more women and girls to get involved, and we can’t wait to welcome them into the game.”
With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on the horizon, the future of women’s cricket in Warwickshire looks brighter than ever. The tournament is expected to inspire a new wave of women and girls to pick up a bat, and with the infrastructure and leagues already in place across the county, Warwickshire Cricket is well positioned to welcome that growth.
Congratulations to Bedworth, Moseley Ashfield and Kineton, and to every team that took part this season.
