In partnership with the Bob Wills Fund, the Warwickshire Cricket Foundation recently welcomed actor and campaigner, Colin McFarlane, to Edgbaston Stadium for a special community lunch celebrating the enduring legacy of the Windrush generation.
The gathering brought together 130 local community members for an afternoon of reflection, recognition and togetherness, honouring the remarkable contributions the Windrush generation has made to British culture, society and sport.
Colin McFarlane, a long‑standing advocate for justice for those affected by the Windrush scandal, delivered a powerful and personal address.
He shared stories from individuals impacted by the Windrush scandal and screened moving video testimonies from his charity, Justice4Windrush, highlighting the challenges that many still face today. His message underscored not only the importance of acknowledging history, but also the need to continue supporting those pursuing justice and recognition.
Alongside celebrating heritage and community, the event carried a vital health message.
Guests heard about the heightened risk of prostate cancer in Black men, with the statistic that 1 in 4 Black men will be diagnosed in their lifetime.
Colin bravely shared his own journey after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, encouraging men in attendance to take proactive steps in seeking information, speaking to their GP, and getting tested.
Esther Lau-Mackaay, Community Engagement Officer, said: “Events like this are vital for bringing our community together, honouring past generations and shining a light on the issues that still affect so many. Our partnership with the Bob Willis Fund is incredibly important in raising awareness of prostate cancer and ensuring more people have access to life‑saving information.”
