During the Easter holidays, we hosted our Chance to Shine Street local finals at Doug Ellis Sports Centre, with U13s and U15s competitions taking place on 30 March before the girls’ finals rounded off the event on 31 March.

Teams competed in a six-a-side format, ensuring every player had the chance to bat and bowl. Matches were fast-paced, with each innings made up of 20 balls, allowing for plenty of cricket throughout the day. Teams were competing for the chance to represent Warwickshire at the regional finals, where they will have the opportunity to qualify for the National Street Finals in August.

Part of the Chance to Shine Street programme, which aims to provide free cricket opportunities for young people who may not otherwise have access to the sport, the finals brought together teams from across our Street hubs. Each team represented their local area, competing for the chance to progress to the next stage in a brilliant celebration of Street cricket.

U13 Boys

The U13 competition delivered an exciting morning of cricket, with teams competing strongly for top honours and progression. The tournament was played as a round-robin, with the top two teams contesting a final and third playing fourth in the third-place playoff.

Sparkhill were crowned champions after beating Bordesley in the final. Saltley also impressed throughout the competition, finishing third to secure their place in the regional finals.

U15 Boys

The U15 competition maintained the high standard, with closely contested matches across the day.

Saltley emerged as champions after beating Aston in the final, while Bordesley secured third place to also progress to the regional finals.

Following their performances in the local finals, Sparkhill, Saltley, Aston and Bordesley will now represent their hubs at the regional finals, taking place at the University of Worcester on 26 May.

Girls

The girls’ finals, held on 31 March, brought the competition to an exciting conclusion.

Moseley Girls were crowned champions after beating Bordesley Green Girls in the final. Both teams will now progress to the National Finals, which will take place on 11 August at the University of Nottingham.

The local finals were another fantastic example of the impact of Chance to Shine Street, providing young people with the opportunity to develop their skills and represent their communities through cricket. We wish all qualifying teams the very best as they progress to the next stage.
