Fancy Sleeping Under the Stars at Edgbaston to combat Youth Homelessness?
The Eric Hollies stand is known worldwide as one of the most atmospheric stands in cricket. This February the atmosphere will take a more subdued tone when it houses sleepers for Land Aid’s Birmingham Sleepout.
For the past three years the Edgbaston Sleepout was held by the Edgbaston Foundation, official charity of Edgbaston and Warwickshire CCC.
This year the Edgbaston Foundation are supporting Land Aid to host a sleepout at the stadium, with the same mission to combat youth homelessness.
The Land Aid sleepout is taking place on Thursday 6th February 2020.
Edgbaston Foundation are inviting local organisations and citizens to brave one night outside to help prevent young people from facing the same prospects, every night.
Each participant has a fundraising target of £150 and £33 admission fee.
Paul Morrish, Chief Executive, LandAid, said: “I am delighted that we are bringing our SleepOut series to multiple locations across the UK this time around. Last year’s event provided a truly impactful opportunity to raise money to help vulnerable young people across the UK. I hope to see as many of you as possible sleeping out for one night with all of us to help make changes to young people’s lives which will last a lifetime.”
Funds raised will directly support St Basils’ through their award winning ‘Live and Work Scheme’ and Edgbaston Foundation’s Bears Bursary programme which supports young people who have experienced homelessness with financial assistance to go through university.
Ravi Masih, Head of Community Engagements and Government Relations, said: “We’ve had a strong commitment in fundraising to tackle homelessness over the last several years and I’m delighted we can carry this on with Land Aid. Sleeping out is an eye-opening experience; whilst doing so within the confines of Edgbaston stadium is only a glimpse into the reality many face on a regular basis, it will certainly provide a sense of realism to encourage sleepers with their fundraising efforts’
The sleepout is a great team building opportunity and an extremely meaningful fundraising challenge.
