In 2019, Edgbaston Foundation held its third successive Edgbaston Sleepout in partnership with St Basils.
Edgbaston Sleepout sees staff of Warwickshire CCC network meet business and civic leaders from the second city sleep rough in the stadium bowl.
The fundraiser has raised approximately £50,000 across three years to support the work of St. Basils, the Edgbaston Foundation’s lead charity partner, who address youth homelessness around Birmingham and the Warwickshire region.
The sleepout has helped St. Basils with the establishment of a new focused employability programme, supporting young people back into work. In addition, Edgbaston Foundation have created a Bears Bursary to help ease the financial burden for young people under St. Basils care who are going to University.
“Taking part in the Edgbaston Sleepout won’t just raise funds for a great cause, it will also provide a life experience and an understanding of what rough sleepers go through on a regular basis,” said Ravi Masih, Head of Community Engagement at Warwickshire CCC.
“Those taking part can help us address this deeply concerning situation in Birmingham and Warwickshire.
“This is a great team bonding experience that helps you connect with friends and colleagues in a truly memorable way. I encourage everyone to take part, it’ll be a night you’ll always remember.”
“We are once again delighted to be working with the Edgbaston Foundation on the Edgbaston Sleepout,” added Barrie Hodge, Head of Fundraising and Communications at St. Basils.
“The money raised is vital to the success of our employability program, which helps young people who have experienced homelessness into work.
“On behalf of the young people who will benefit from this program, thank you.”
The sleepout is a great team building opportunity. In the past Ashley Giles, now Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket at the England & Wales Cricket Board, joined Bishop of Birmingham Rt. Rev’d David Uruqhart, CEO Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce Paul Faulkner and Partner of Anthony Collins Solicitors David Alcock.
