Warwickshire Cricket Foundation delivered an inspiring work experience programme at Edgbaston Stadium last week, when eight female students studying media and production at Sandwell College were offered a unique opportunity within a live sporting environment – and that included the chance to put questions to Warwickshire Bears star Davina Perrin.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Timed to coincide with the opening fixtures of the ICC Women\u2019s Cricket World Cup<\/a> at Edgbaston, the programme was designed to empower young women by building confidence, communication skills and real-world industry experience through cricket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students had the chance to step into professional roles, practice announcing techniques and explore how digital media is created and managed around major sporting events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The experience was further enhanced when the students were invited to interview Bears batter Perrin so that they could apply their newly developed skills in a real-life setting, in order to build confidence in interviewing, communication and content creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With youth unemployment at an all-time high across the West Midlands, the Foundation – strongly supported by Warwickshire County Cricket Club – is delivering targeted programmes designed to address this pressing generational challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By creating meaningful opportunities and pathways into sport and related industries, the Foundation is playing an active role in empowering young people, enhancing their prospects and contributing to stronger, more resilient communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports launched this week outlined that one million young people are out of work across the whole county and this programme by Warwickshire Cricket Foundation aims to play a part in tackling this issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sessions were led by sports stadium announcer and journalist Lara Davies, who facilitated an engaging and interactive series of workshops which focused on key areas including stadium announcing, developing social media campaigns and broadcasting activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Encouraging young people to consider careers in sport while helping to build confidence, skills and employability through work experience and volunteering is a key priority for the Warwickshire Cricket Foundation.

Esther Lau-Mackaay, Community Engagement Project Officer, said: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis programme has been a fantastic opportunity to connect these young women with the professional world of sport, while highlighting the growing impact of women\u2019s cricket. Experiences like this are invaluable in building confidence and gaining hands-on experience in the sports industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Lara Davies, stadium announcer and journalist, said: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis work experience programme has been incredibly rewarding. It\u2019s so great to see so many young women getting into the industry and getting stuck in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s great is that there are so many activities to actually do – it\u2019s not just about sitting back and learning in a classroom. We have been learning how to stadium announce, ask questions in a mock press conference and getting the ladies up and doing it and hopefully inspiring them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
