Last weekend, the Warwickshire Cricket Foundation played a friendly cricket match against the National Asian Cricket Council (NACC).<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Warwickshire Cricket Foundation’s team was formed by softball and club players from local Women’s and Girls’ leagues in Warwickshire and Birmingham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Staff members Poppy Davies, Women and Girls’ Community Coach, and Chelsea Alagoa, ACE Women and Girls Development Officer, represented the Foundation team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mina Zahoor, a former member of the Warwickshire Cricket Foundation team, returned and played an important part in the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warwickshire lost the toss and were made to bat first. Poppy Davies opened the batting but, despite losing her partner early on, managed a respectable 31 before being caught.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dorridge Cricket Club player Anusha Chauhan scored 36 before the team finished 114 all out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NACC chased down the target of 114 in 16 overs, with Fatima Nabib (34) and Mina Zahoor (24*) bringing the game to an end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The game is part of the ECB Core Cities program, which was established with Sport England to support the South Asian Action Plan. The program aims to focus on cities with large  South Asian demographics and increase Cricket participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simran Riat, Community Participation Officer,\u00a0said\u00a0“It was a great day of fun for all 24 girls playing in the game.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As part of the Core Cities program, we have previously run events such as Ramadan League and Tape Ball Competitions, and adding this Women’s game into the yearly schedule is great.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Foundation continues to champion, support and promote cricket within diverse communities and aims to increase growth and participation levels in all areas.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
