India take honours in Fans Trophy ahead of Edgbaston’s Specsavers Test match
With England’s opening Test of the Specsavers Series versus India starting in Birmingham in just over a week, supporters of both teams recently came together at the Edgbaston Foundation Ground, on Portland Road, for the annual Fans Trophy fixture.
Played as a T20 match, it was National Asian Cricket Council’s India Fans XI who took early bragging rights ahead of the series by beating England’s Barmy Army.
Ravi Masih, Head of Community Engagement at Warwickshire County Cricket Club, said: “The Edgbaston Fans Trophy is something that we’ve been doing each year to bring supporters together in a friendly T20 match at a local venue.
“This year’s Specsavers Test match promises to be a fantastic occasion and it was great to work with the Barmy Army and National Asian Cricket Council on the Edgbaston Fans Trophy.
“Not only will it be the first Test between England and India at Edgbaston, since 2011, but it’s also England’s 1,000th men’s Test match, and we’re working very closely with the England & Wales Cricket Board to celebrate the occasion.”
