South & West stand redevelopment

Masterplan’s initial Phase saw the opening of the stadium’s new South and West stands which replaced the old Pavilion and member’s facilities.

It was an ambitious project that repositioned the iconic stadium on a platform alongside the best stadia in world cricket and ensured that international cricket was secured in Birmingham for years to come.

Phase 1 was completed in July 2011 at a cost of £32-million.

The four-tiered stand has seating capacity for more than 4,000 spectators and includes hospitality suites, players changing rooms, administration offices, Club shop and media facilities with unrivalled views of the pitch.

For the first time since the 1890s, the Edgbaston Road end of Edgbaston was an impressive, modern structure.

The adjacent West Stand is on the site of the previous William Ansell Stand.

It comprises two large tiers of seating and sits alongside a 750-seat banqueting and 1000m2 exhibition space whose bright blue presence is a distinctive feature of both the inside and the outside of the ground.

A state-of-the-art widescreen LED score and display board was added in 2024 to improve spectator entertainment and access to information.
