Phase 3.1: Skyline roof-top terrace

Masterplan’s Phase 3 started with the unveiling of a spectacular new Skyline roof-top terrace that has transformed the stadium’s outdoor events capabilities.

Skyline – situated at the top of the South Stand – affords a luxury space to host events with panoramic views of the famous Edgbaston pitch and Birmingham landscape.

The major refurbishment includes a high-end fit with a selection of informal seating areas in a partially-covered, contemporary roof-top setting.

It is one of the most unique event spaces in Birmingham and has already enjoyed some stunning moments including the sell-out Ashes offerings in summer 2023.

It further expands Edgbaston’s portfolio of multi-purpose, versatile spaces and provides increased opportunity to host more summer parties and outdoor events.

Phase 3.2: Xcelerate with Edgbaston

Phase 3.2 of Masterplan commenced with the opening of a new catering and hospitality centre of excellence at Edgbaston which promises exciting career opportunities at the stadium for local residents.

Xcelerate with Edgbaston – operated by stadium catering partner Levy UK + Ireland – is situated behind the Wyatt Stand and offers apprenticeships, career development, and skills training for people wanting to work in the sector.

Apprenticeships range from Level 2 through to degree level and spanning culinary, operations, IT, HR, event management, procurement and finance roles.
The one million pound facility – situated behind the Wyatt Stand – is equipped with the latest technology and features 12 modern cooking stations, lecture theatre, and practical training areas.

And Xcelerate with Edgbaston also offers a community engagement programme, including cookery masterclasses for aspiring home chefs run by professional chefs.

Edgbaston is dedicated to serving our local communities. Most of the staff that work here on match days come from the local area and we see Xcelerate as an opportunity to provide more career opportunities for people living near Edgbaston.

There will be opportunities for trainees to showcase their talents on match days – including England internationals when 25,000 spectators will be here – and for visitors to savour food created by the trainee chefs.

Phase 3.3: Raglan, Family Stand & Hotel

Phase 3 continues with one of the most exciting projects to date for Edgbaston’s Masterplan: the redevelopment of the Raglan and Family Stands and the construction of a brand new 4-star hotel.

The existing Raglan and Family Stands are coming towards the end of their designed lifespan, creating an opportunity to build something truly special at Edgbaston.

The proposed new stand – which will retain the same capacity as the outgoing stands – will include a new concourse with enhanced food and drink options, plus improved facilities for disabled spectators.

The Radisson RED Birmingham Edgbaston Stadium – part of the group’s RED lifestyle 4-star brand – is set to feature 146 rooms including 85 with pitch-facing balconies.

Eighteen of the pitch-view rooms will be fully convertible into hospitality spaces, while Level 4 will feature a rooftop restaurant and bar with a 160 square metre outside terrace offering panoramic views of the Birmingham skyline.

Edgbaston Stadium currently contributes approximately £35 million to the local economy and projections from the new hotel development increase that to £40 million and £70 million in a cricket World Cup year.

The new hotel will also support 134 permanent jobs in the community and drive local economic growth by increasing footfall and welcoming overnight visitors.

The development has been specifically designed to contribute to the development of a continuous roofline, connecting to the South and West Stands, and will therefore stand no taller than the existing stadium.

By redeveloping the stands for the 21st Century and delivering a new premium hotel alongside hotel, leisure and accessible spectator facilities, we plan to energise the wider Edgbaston Masterplan, creating a vibrant economic centre around the stadium and delivering lasting investment for the local community.
