#MeetTheTeam – Ros Wilson
How long have you worked at Edgbaston for?
3 years this month!
What is you favourite thing about working at Edgbaston?
As we host such a variety of events there is always something new – from small meetings to huge exhibitions, boxing events, car launches, comic festivals, awards dinners, prom nights, private parties and everything in between.
I love working with a friendly team in a large open plan office with lots of bustle. On matchdays I enjoy taking a turn on reception, helping with customer queries, and then doing a stint on the bars, pouring pints to give bar staff a break – its great to be actively operational to really absorb the atmosphere of the game.
Another perk to Edgbaston is manning exhibition stands in other cities, promoting our Conference & Events facilities, attending networking events and ultimatley meeting lots of people.
In your opinion, what separates Edgbaston from other venues?
The people. From the warm welcome by the car park/security staff and reception team to the delivery on the day of a client’s event – the people make the difference. Our team delivery high quality food and professional service in all operations. Oh, and the spectacular views of the pitch and the complimentary on site car parking are big plus points too!
What does your day-to-day role entail?
The main thing that I love about my job is meeting people, but there is plenty of background work that is required as well. I research prospective clients before making face-to-face appointment or tours of our amazing facilities. It is also important in my role to maintain a good relationship with our exisiting clients. The other things I do include planning exhibitions, attending networking events and, a personal favourite for me and the team, securing new business!
What are you most excited for in the future of Edgbaston?
Being part of this prestigious venue with world class cricket – women’s cricket is really going from strength-to-strength and if we can encourage more youngsters to pick up a bat, this will retain the legacy.
What is your favourite event you have been involved with?
The Royal Television Society Careers Day was fun – with TV crews, horror makeup demonstrations – I had a nasty cut painted on my face and scared everyone in the office as they didn’t realise it was makeup until I owned up.
Edgbaston’s Christmas parties are legendary – this year’s parties are sold out already on 4 dates with other dates selling fast too. The live band “Solid Groove Foundation” blew everyone away and are sure to do so again this year.
