Edgbaston and Provide – The Best of Brum
Edgbaston are delighted to announce a new partnership with Birmingham based design brand Provide. The initial 12 month partnership will see Edgbaston and Provide collaborating on a number of exciting projects, starting with a new pop-up store called The Best of Brum.
Best of Brum is an all new pop up shop in Birmingham’s Great Western Arcade, opening on November 1, 2016. Hosted by Provide, which recently celebrated its fourth year of business in the city, Best of Brum brings together some of the best emerging creative talent currently working in Birmingham.
Highlights include clothing and artwork by Joseph Turvey, a fashion designer who has shown several times at London Fashion Week and earlier this year relocated to Birmingham; Naski, a new company from product designer Simon Spink whose technical bags are handmade from start to finish in his Birmingham workshop; Haslucks Honey made with the help of Birmingham bees and vintage style hand lettered metal signs by Jim Kerr of Seven 9 Signs, Birmingham’s leading traditional sign writer.
"We're delighted to be part of the Best of Brum in the Great Western Arcade and we see this as a catalyst for a strong working relationship in the future"
A first floor gallery above the shop will host a series of events in keeping with the ‘Best of Brum’ theme. Local comedian Joe Lycett will hold a homecoming book signing for his new release ‘Parsnips, Buttered’, and Brutalism-loving architects Space Play will reveal five new works in their ‘Brutal Brum’ series. Imbue, once dubbed the Banksy of Brighton but now happily settled in Brum, will also exhibit a collection of his signature controversial artworks, with themes ranging from religion to social media.
Edgbaston will be stocking the store with a number of retail items from the Birmingham Bears range including New Era baseball caps and a selection of other winter goodies.
Matthew Nation, owner of Provide and organiser of Best of Brum says, “I have been a passionate advocate of the creative potential in Birmingham since I moved here four years ago and Best of Brum is going to be a fantastic showcase for some local artists and brands that I really admire. Many people are growing tired of faceless retailers that are so far removed from the local community, so I hope that our offer of something a little more original that also reinvests back into Birmingham-based businesses will strike a chord with Brummies this winter.”
Gareth Roberts, Commercial Director at Edgbaston said, "Provide are a platform for some of the most exciting emerging creative talent in Birmingham, as well as being creators of great products in their own right. We see Provide as key stakeholders in a vibrant artistic community, which is very proud about Birmingham and we absolutely want to be part of that. We're delighted to be part of the Best of Brum in the Great Western Arcade and we see this as a catalyst for a strong working relationship in the future."
