2nd XI Championship Report: Warwickshire v Yorkshire
The Second XI Championship match between Warwickshire and Yorkshire petered out into a draw on the final day at Portland Road.
After the start of play was delayed for 15 minutes by rain, Yorkshire, leading by 40 on first innings, elected to bat deep into the final day, rather than set up a run-chase, as injuries had left them with only two fit seamers.
They were finally bowled out for 286 with Josh Poysden continuing his impressive start to the season with figures of 30-9-51-4. Ben Brookes and Alex Thomson took two wickets apiece before there was just time for the Bears to make 37 for two second time round.
Earlier in the match Yorkshire, put in, totalled 338 in their first innings. Chris Wright led the bowling for the Bears with 20-3-32-3, supported by two wickets each for Brookes, Thomson and Poysden.
Warwickshire replied with 298. Will Rhodes continued his fine form opening the batting with 95 (100 balls, 16 fours, one six) and, after the innings wobbled to 166 for five, Alex Mellor underpinned a recovery with 64 (116 balls, seven fours).
Mellor was well-supported in stands of 55 and 48 with Thomson (24, 68 balls) and Sunny Singh (23, 71) respectively.
