Abu Dhabi Counties Super Cup Report: Bears v Vikings

Alex Davies and Danny Briggs led the side with bat and ball respectively as the Bears reached the Abu Dhabi Counties Super Cup final following a 23-run victory over Yorkshire Vikings.

The leadership duo, who have both skippered in the two games played so far, were the stand out contributors as the Bears were too hot to handle for the Vikings.

Davies struck an incredible 96 off just 41 balls, whilst Briggs added to his three wickets yesterday with figures of four for 24 from four overs.

Bears will now face Notts Outlaws in tomorrow’s final after they pipped Yorkshire into second place by net run rate. Play due to start at 2.15pm GMT.

Club Captain Davies chose to bat after winning the toss and he immediately proved his decision was correct by firing 16 runs off the first over.

Playing in the hottest weather of the tour so far, conditions were certainly in the batters favour, but nothing should be taken away from the right-hander’s innings. Striking 10 fours and six sixes, the 29-year-old showcased the intent and aggression he wants his side to play with this year.

Will Rhodes echoed those sentiments, adding 42*, including 16 off the final over to help the Bears reach 222 for five.

An ominous target was set, but the Vikings, led by Will Luxton, gave them a strong platform early in the powerplay.

But the wickets of George Hill (10), Yash Vagadia (8) and Matthew Revis (17) clawed them back and once Luxton (67) departed on 115 for five, the Bears were considerable favourites.

Spinner Dom Bess offered resistance however with an eight boundary 49, but it proved in vein as they closed on 199 for nine.
