Warwickshire County Cricket Club has announced an Academy XI will enter the Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League’s Williamson Trophy knock-out competition in 2017.
The Bears will enter a team of players from its Academy, Emerging Players Programme (EPP) and Development of Excellence (DOE) squads in next year’s Williamson Trophy, with the first round tie being played away to Kidderminster CC on Saturday 15 April.
The team will then face either Shifnal CC or Ombersley CC in the second round if they prove victorious, or enter the first round of the plate if defeated.
Paul Greetham, Elite Cricket Development Manager at Warwickshire CCC, said: “The vast majority of our Academy, EPP and DOE squad members are registered and are coming through the pathway of a Birmingham & District Premier club, and it’s an important part of their development to compete in such a strong competition in the regular cricket season.
“With the Williamson Trophy scheduled in April, it presents a great opportunity to have some of our leading youngsters play together at such an early stage of the season and gaining experience of competing in one of the leading club knock-out competitions.”
