Following a really successful first event in December, the Warwickshire Academy and St. Basil’s joined forced for a summer sports day at The Edgbaston Foundation Ground, followed by a barbecue and T20 Blast match at Edgbaston – the Bears playing Durham Jets. St. Basil’s attempt to prevent youth homelessness by providing support and accommodation for the young people of Birmingham & Coventry. The charity targets young people in the 16-25 age range who may have fallen on difficult circumstances and have been displaced or are at risk of being without a roof over their head. An action packed afternoon at The Foundation Ground saw the WCCC Academy young players plan and lead three sporting activities – cricket (of course!), football and bowls – whilst 12 young people who have been recently supported by St. Basil’s and The University of Birmingham’s Mental Skills Training, tried their hand at something new. After a bite to eat from the barbecue, the whole group moved to Edgbaston to shout ‘YOU BEARS’ and the 1st team lads on to a comprehensive victory over Durham. Warwickshire CCC and the charity look forward to joining forces again in the coming weeks and months!
