Teenage all-rounder Amir Khan has left Warwickshire at the end of his contract.
The 19-year-old, who bowls spin with both arms, signed a rookie professional contract two years ago but has not played a first team game for the Club.
Khan progressed through the Bears Youth Pathway and, at the age of 15 and 293 days, became the youngest player ever to hit a century in the Second XI Championship.
Last season he averaged 35.50 in the Seconds and hit a top score of 122 against Essex in the Second XI Championship, one of four centuries he’s scored since 2021.
Warwickshire First Team Coach Mark Robinson, said: “We wish Amir all the very best for the future. He is a strong character and a talented player. He always displays commitment and unwavering work ethic on his game.
“Amir has come through the system at the same time as a group of very talented Bears players, some of which are currently away with various England teams. It’s meant Amir hasn’t been able to break into the first team. We think it’s the right move for him to pursue opportunities elsewhere and get the game time he needs to keep developing as a player.
“Amir is still young, he’s just turned 19, and has the potential to come back stronger and forge a successful career.”
Khan is all-time leading run scorer in the Warwickshire Youth Pathway and Academy, with more than 4,800 runs during his time in the youth system, and last summer was selected for a Young England Lions Invitational XI that played Sri Lanka U19s and England U19s.
“I’ve had a great time at Warwickshire and enjoyed every bit of it,” said Khan, who spent the winter with Pakistan First Class side Ghani Glass CC.
“The lads have been really supportive and training with experienced players has helped my game. I started here from the age of 10 and am proud of my record in the Academy and Second XI cricket.
“Also lots of special memories of Edgbaston, including being 12th man for England against the West Indies last summer and sharing a dressing room with the England team for the five days.
“I feel my game is in a good place, I’m in good form. My all-round game is getting better and I aim to keep getting better day by day.
“I want to be the best player I can, to find a new county for myself, to try to get as many good opportunities as possible. I’m training hard every day. Opportunities can come later in your career, you just never know.”
