Warwickshire County Cricket Club can confirm that Ashley Giles will leave his post as Sport Director to take up the role of Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket at the England & Wales Cricket Board.
Giles will begin his new role with the ECB on 7 January 2019, whilst the club will begin its recruitment process for his successor with immediate effect.
Obviously we are disappointed to lose Ashley at this time as he has done a great job for us over the last two years and, together, we have developed some exciting plans for the future.

Neil Snowball, Chief Executive of Warwickshire CCC, said: “Obviously we are disappointed to lose Ashley at this time as he has done a great job for us over the last two years and, together, we have developed some exciting plans for the future.
“We always knew that Ashley would be a strong contender for this England role, if and when it came up, and I guess that opportunity has arisen sooner than we would have hoped for or expected. However, we do wish Ashley the very best of luck and believe that he will achieve great success in his new role at this very important time for the English game.
“Tom Harrison of the ECB and I have been in contact throughout the recruitment process and it has been handled in a very professional way. We have also been able to agree on a suitable compensation package for Warwickshire CCC in order to release Ashley from his commitments at Edgbaston.
“The club will now start the process to find a successor for Ashley. We know that there will be a lot of interest from around the world as Warwickshire is a very special club and this is one of the top jobs in the game. The club also boasts very exciting squads of players across our men’s and women’s teams, who are supported by an excellent team of coaches, so this is a great time for a new Sport Director to come in and build on Ashley’s great work.
“However, we will take our time to make sure that we appoint the right person with the right skills and experience to take the club forward.”
Giles returned to Warwickshire as Sport Director in January 2017 and he has led the transition of the men’s playing squad, which has included the recruitment of several talented young cricketers and the graduation of a number of young players from the Academy to the senior ranks. The men’s team also reached the final of the T20 Blast in 2017 and returned to Division One of the Specsavers County Championship at the first attempt by being crowned champions of Division Two in September.
“We know that there will be a lot of interest from around the world as Warwickshire is a very special club and this is one of the top jobs in the game.

Ashley Giles, said: “I am delighted to be joining the ECB and shaping the future of England cricket throughout the men’s game
“I am very grateful for the opportunity and excited about working with some talented peopleThe legacy left by Andrew Strauss has put the performance programme in a stable place. It is fundamental that I facilitate the great work currently being carried out, meet our objectives and help our sport achieve great things in the coming years both domestically and internationally.
“I believe it is important for the game to have a strong international setup, which is showing great promise in what will be a significant year for our red and white ball teams leading into the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup this summer and The Ashes. The next 12 months could transform the game like no other time in recent memory.”
“Finally, I would like thank Warwickshire County Cricket Club and in particular Chairman, Norman Gascoigne, and Chief Executive, Neil Snowball, for their guidance and support during my time at Edgbaston.”
