Youngsters at Forton Cricket Club had a special guest at last week’s indoor nets night as Bears’ all-rounder Ateeq Javid called in to give a coaching session.

It was fantastic for the youngsters to learn about what’s required to succeed at the highest level of the game, with Ateeq having won several trophies with the Bears.

Ateeq, who joined the Bears at our Under 10s age group and came through our Development of Excellence programme, gave bowling tips and advice to members of Forton’s Under 13’s team at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

After training he signed autographs and gave a talk to the young cricket fanatics on what it takes to become a professional cricketer, in addition to his experiences of playing in the national development programme with England Captain Joe Root and all-rounder Ben Stokes.

Ronald Roberts of Forton CC, said: “It was fantastic for the youngsters to learn about what’s required to succeed at the highest level of the game, with Ateeq having won several trophies with the Bears.

“We thank him for coming over to Lilleshall to meet our young cricketers and wish him the very vest for the new season. We’ll certainly be at Edgbaston cheering him on this summer.”

Located just outside Newport in Shropshire, Forton CC runs three senior men’s teams a women’s team and has a junior programme, with under 11s and under 13s teams.
