Warwickshire County Cricket Club has extended the contract of homegrown all-rounder Matt Lamb until at least the end of the 2020 domestic season.

Lamb (22) came into the Bears’ pathway at the age of 10 before progressing into the club Academy. He signed his first professional contract in 2016 and made his senior debut later that year, following a series of high scores in the second team.

I’m ambitious and want to take my game across all three formats and make major contributions to further team success.

He has now played 11 Specsavers County Championship games for the club, scoring 482 runs and taking three wickets, whilst he has also made three List A appearances.

“It’s always pleasing to see players who have come through the club’s pathway step up to play a full part in our senior squad,” said Warwickshire’s Sport Director Ashley Giles.

“Matt is an impressive cricketer who works very hard at both elements of his game. He has the potential to play major role for Warwickshire and Birmingham Bears for many years to come and we’re delighted that he has committed to our long-terms plans for the club.”

Wolverhampton-born Lamb is one of three Bears, alongside Ed Pollock and Josh Poysden, to play for Birmingham & District Premier League side Barnt Green, having joined the four-time champions aged just nine.

Matt Lamb said: “I love playing for the Bears and I’m thrilled to extend my time here for at least another two years.

“I’ve played several Championship games and had a taste of the One-Day Cup, but I’m ambitious and want to take my game across all three formats and make major contributions to further team success.

“We’ve got a strong squad and competition for places is always tough, but I just need to keep working hard and taking every opportunity that I can.”
