Warwickshire County Cricket Club has unveiled its Bears in Colour display of all coloured playing shirts within its home ground of Edgbaston.

Stretching along Edgbaston’s E2 stairwell, which leads up to the Tom Dollery Members’ Lounge, Bears in Colour showcases all coloured shirts that the team has worn since the introduction of white ball cricket to the England and Wales county cricket programme in 1993.

Starting on the ground floor, the display has the Bears first yellow and navy shirt, which was worn in the AXA Equity & Law Sunday League in 1993 and made legendary in the following season as the Bears completed the treble in Bristol.

Other highlighted include the iconic silver shirt from the first ever season of T20 cricket in 2003, the Blast champions shirt from 2014 that features the sublimated roaring Bear, and the 2021 Royal London Cup shirt which detailed the name of every Member who donated their 2020 subscription to mitigate the impact of covid.

Tom Rawlings, Head of Media & Communications at Warwickshire CCC, said: “We started the Bears in Colour project around three years ago.

“Some of our most iconic shirts had started appearing online, so we thought that we should create a collection within the Club. Through the Warwickshire Old County Cricketers’ Association, we subsequently had shirts donated by Jamie Spires, Neil Carter and Asif Din, and several Members also came forward to help us complete the set.

“The stairway up to the Tom Dollery Lounge was a completely blank canvas, so it provided a great space for us to add a bit more colour and show off some of the cult designs that we now have on display; some of which will be appearing as replicas very soon.

“This is only the first step though and we want to use much more of the space at Edgbaston to show of the proud history and personality of the Club.”
