The 2026 Vitality Blast’s opening fixtures concluded on Sunday, with Warwickshire Bears Men claiming their first win of the season against current holders Somerset in Taunton.
While it has been a difficult start to the campaign for both men’s and women’s teams, there have been several positives ahead of a two-week break in the competition…
Webster’s leads run-scoring charts
Beau Webster is one of only three men’s players to have scored a hundred through the opening six games of the 2026 Vitality Blast. Chasing 215 for a first win of the season, Webster hit it to all parts at The County Ground on Sunda, bringing up his hundred off just 54 balls before eventually being dismissed for 112 off 61.
The Australian international struck 97 against Northants at the end of May, before completing his maiden T20 hundred in some style against Somerset. He now has 288 runs in the competition to lead the current run-scoring charts.
Austin in the runs
Meg Austin has been a pillar of consistency at the top of the order for the Bears Women. The right-handed batter has 209 runs in the competition so far, with scores of 41, 44, 19, 74 and 31 in her last five outings, striking 25 fours and four sixes in that time.
At just 21 years old, Austin has been a real bright spark for the Bears, with the 74 she compiled against The Blaze her current career best. That innings came off just 51 balls, and with it she catapulted herself up the competition’s run-scoring chart. She currently sits third through six games.
Malik makes debut
Zen Malik was named in the Bears side to face Northamptonshire at Edgbaston at the end of May, as he made his first start in the Vitality Blast since signing for the Club in 2024. Opening the batting, he got the Bears off to a blistering start. Striking three sixes in his ten-ball innings, Malik was eventually dismissed for 26 in an entertaining start to his T20 career.
The destructive right-handed batter made his First Class debut against Yorkshire last May, before going on to make his maiden hundred against Surrey a week later. His performances through three starts in Blast cricket could be a sign of things to come.
