Warwickshire County Cricket Club has agreed a one-month loan deal with Lancashire for left-arm fast bowler seamer Toby Lester.
Lester (26) has played 11 First Class and 11 T20 games to date, taking 12 and 15 wickets respectively. He joins the team with immediate effect and will be available for Sunday’s Specsavers County Championship match versus Surrey at The Oval.
Whilst it has been a frustrating period, our younger, inexperienced players have stepped up and really helped get our Championship campaign back on track, with two wins and the better of the game at home to Notts.
Paul Farbrace
Paul Farbrace, Sport Director at Warwickshire CCC, said: “To be able to bring a talented left-arm seamer into our attack is a real boost to the squad ahead of our trip to The Oval. Our thanks go to Lancashire for their support in allowing us to loan Toby at short notice.”
Warwickshire suffered further injury blows this week with confirmation that fast bowler Ryan Sidebottom is ruled out for the remainder of the 2019 season with a stress fracture to his right shoulder blade.
Liam Norwell will undergo a scan on the left hamstring injury sustained in the away Championship win over Yorkshire this week whilst George Panayi will under have a scan on his rib impingement.
Henry Brookes has a tear in the ligament of his left hip and is ruled out of action for at least the next week.
“We’ve certainly been dealt a difficult hand with injuries this season,” added Farbrace. “The recent news of Ryan’s season-ending injury is a real blow considering the role he has played for us in Championship cricket over the last two years. However, knowing Ryan’s character, I’m sure that he will come back stronger for us next season.
“Whilst it has been a frustrating period, our younger, inexperienced players have stepped up and really helped get our Championship campaign back on track, with two wins and the better of the game at home to Notts.
“Olly Stone and Ian Bell are also both making good progress. Olly bowled 15 overs in our Second XI Championship game this week whilst Ian will also play for the Seconds in the coming weeks.”
