Warwickshire County Cricket Club has confirmed that batsman Dominic Sibley will join the squad with immediate effect as part of a loan agreement, which allows for all-rounder Rikki Clarke to move to Surrey.

The loan agreement takes effect from Friday 4 August and subsequently allows both players to be available for all remaining NatWest T20 Blast fixtures and Specsavers County Championship matches in the current playing season, before their full contracts take effect at the season end.

Dom has a very big future as a Bear and will come into the squad for tomorrow night’s NatWest T20 Blast game at Edgbaston against Worcestershire Rapids, and Sunday’s Specsavers County Championship match against Middlesex at Lord’s.

Ashley Giles, Sport Director at Warwickshire CCC, said: “We’re very happy to reach this loan agreement that brings Dom to Edgbaston and I would like to thank Alec Stewart and Surrey CCC for their part in reaching this conclusion.

“Dom has a very big future as a Bear and will come into the squad for tomorrow night’s NatWest T20 Blast game at Edgbaston against Worcestershire Rapids, and Sunday’s Specsavers County Championship match against Middlesex at Lord’s.

“I have spoken about our need to undergo a transformation process and Dom’s addition is a key part of achieving this, along with the previous signings of Adam Hose and Will Rhodes. All three players are excellent prospects and, with several home-grown young players also showing great promise, we will have fantastic competition for places in all formats.”

Dominic Sibley, said: “Warwickshire CCC is a massive club that has won all three trophies in recent years and, whilst its currently going through a transition process, its management team have so much ambition to bring more trophies to Edgbaston.

“Having spent time with Ashley Giles and Jim Troughton, I’m very excited by the club’s plans and felt it was fantastic opportunity for me to make this move to Edgbaston and start my career as a Bear.

“I’ve obviously had to give a huge amount of thought to such a decision, having joined Surrey at the Under 9s age group. I would like to thank everyone at Surrey for their support throughout this period and I wish the club the very best for the future.”

All-rounder Clarke signed a two-year deal with Surrey last week after spending nine seasons at Edgbaston where he has won the County Championship (2012), two one-day cups (2010 and 2016) and the NatWest T20 Blast (2014).
Giles added: “Rikki has played a major role in one of the most successful periods of success in the club’s history, having joined in 2008 and won four domestic trophies across all formats.

“Whilst we’re sad to see him go, it’s a fantastic opportunity for him to return to his home county to end his career. We thank him for his great service as a proud Bear and we wish him the very best for the future.”
