New Bears Women signing Amuruthaa Surenkumar has been included in England’s squad for the 2025 ICC U19 T20 World Cup.

Surenkumar will take to the international stage for the second time as she jets off in the New Year with Chris Guest’s England side who take on Ireland, Pakistan and USA in Group B of the competition in Malaysia.

Sixteen teams will take part in the 41-match event across 15 days of between 18 January to 2 February.

It’s the second time the all-rounder has won youth international honours.

The 17-year-old was a part of England U19s tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year and, in the final game of the trip, hit a quickfire 25 runs off 26 balls and claimed two wickets.

Surenkumar will head to South East Asia on the back of a breakthrough 2024 season in which she made her Sunrisers debut after signing her first professional contract.

Bears Head of Women’s Cricket, Laura MacLeod, said: “The Under-19s T20 World Cup is a competition that has helped with the development of several Bears Women including Charis Pavely and Hannah Baker.

“It’s now a stage where Amu can perform and gain more valuable international experience.”

Surenkumar heads to Malaysia as part of a 15-strong squad who are bidding to go one step further than they did back in 2023, where England came runners-up to South Africa in an enthralling final.
