The beautiful bank holiday weather led to a full set of Birmingham League fixtures.

George Panayi starred with the bat to move Shrewsbury top of the Birmingham & District Cricket League with two wins from two.

Put in at the Lant, Panayi’s 60 off 70 (8 4s) helped set Berkswell 168 to win, but the hosts fell 20 runs short after being bowled out for 152 in 46.2 overs.

Batsman Ed Pollock was also in the runs despite Barnt Green falling at home to Knowle and Dorridge. Needing 280 to win, Pollock who came in at three and hit 49 off 67 (4 4s) before being caught by Alex Phillips. Josh Poysden, who also featured, hit 14 off two with bowling figures of 10 for 62.

Spinning all-rounder Alex Thomson will be cursing his Warwickshire teammate Sunny Singh after being run-out for 0. The Staffordshire native however took the final wicket with his first ball to ensure Moseley got their first win of the season at Smethick. Singh had a better day with the bat and ball finishing 8 not out and bowling 10-0-25-1.

Elsewhere, Andy Umeed and Alex Mellor went head-to-head as W.B. Dartmouth beat Walsall by three wickets.

Put in to bat, Walsall made 191 for 5 with Mellor striking 27 off 28 (3 4s) and Umeed bowling three overs for 10. In their response, Umeed made 39 not out (5 4s) helping the visitors to victory with three balls to spare.

In Division One, Tamworth defeated Bromsgrove who were without Aaron Thomason by six wickets. Second XI opener Liam Banks made 12 off 9 (3 4s) before being caught by Ashley Newfield.
