Birmingham Phoenix have underlined their ambition for the 2026 season of The Hundred with the confirmation of eight major signings and retentions across the men’s and women’s squads, assembling a blend of global experience and elite young prospects.
On the men’s side, Phoenix have added explosive firepower and all-round depth with the signings of Rehan Ahmed, Donovan Ferreira and Mitch Owen, alongside the retention of local favourite Jacob Bethell.
South African all-rounder Ferreira arrives at Edgbaston as one of the most destructive short-format batters in world cricket. A two-time Hundred winner with MI London, the powerful right-hander offers elite finishing ability and wicketkeeping flexibility, bringing a proven winning mentality to the Phoenix middle order.
England international Ahmed became the club’s first direct men’s signing for 2026, joining after an outstanding year across formats. The 21-year-old leg-spinning all-rounder impressed in last season’s Hundred and brings rare versatility with both bat and ball, aligning closely with the Phoenix’s long-term strategy under Performance Director James Thomas and Head Coach Shane Bond.
Australian opener Mitch Owen completes the men’s additions, adding top-order aggression and powerplay impact. Known for his fearless approach in the Big Bash League, Owen’s intent and clean striking give Phoenix another match-winning option at the top of the order.
Those signings complement the retention of Bethell, who returns to his home ground after a breakout period on the international stage. Developed through the Warwickshire pathway, the England all-rounder’s recommitment reinforces Phoenix’s desire to build a bold, high-impact side with strong local roots.
Phoenix Women have also moved decisively in shaping a dynamic and competitive squad, retaining world icon Ellyse Perry and adding England internationals Alice Capsey and Lauren Filer, alongside exciting Australian prospect Lucy Hamilton.
Perry returns for another season at Edgbaston as one of the most influential figures in the women’s game. Her experience, leadership and consistent impact in The Hundred since 2022 make her a cornerstone of the Phoenix Women’s setup as the squad continues to evolve.
Capsey joins Phoenix as one of England’s most exciting young all-rounders, bringing aggressive top-order batting, off-spin options and proven Hundred pedigree. Already a standout across global franchise leagues, her signing adds energy and match-winning quality to the women’s lineup
Fast bowler Filer strengthens the pace attack, arriving with an established reputation as one of England’s most promising quicks. Her wicket-taking ability and competitive edge add another dimension to the Phoenix bowling group in the fast-paced Hundred format
Australian youngster Hamilton rounds out the women’s signings, joining after impressing in the Women’s Big Bash League. A genuine wicket-taker with leadership experience at Under-19 level, she offers exciting long-term potential as part of a youthful, athletic squad
With eight key signings now confirmed, Birmingham Phoenix head into 2026 with momentum and clarity across both squads, combining international pedigree, rising stars and players perfectly suited to the demands of The Hundred.
Phoenix Passes are available now, giving supporters access to all men’s and women’s matches at Edgbaston for what promises to be another thrilling summer of Hundred cricket.
