Birmingham Phoenix are pleased to announce the signings of Lucy Hamilton for Phoenix Women and Mitch Owen for Phoenix Men ahead of the 2026 season of The Hundred, as the club continues to build depth and quality across both squads.

Hamilton joins Phoenix Women as an exciting young bowler who has impressed through the Australian pathway with her genuine variety, potent wicket-taking threat and ability to contribute across formats. A product of the regional system, Hamilton has shown strong form in recent seasons, establishing herself as a wicket taker and reliable batting option.

Hamilton has featured in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) with Brisbane Heat, turning heads with her ability to swing and seam the ball in high-pressure T20 environments. She made history as the youngest player to take a five-wicket haul in WBBL competition and her competitive edge, adaptability across formats, and leadership experience at Australia Under-19 level underscore her potential as a dynamic addition for 2026.

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Birmingham Phoenix,” said Hamilton. “It’s a brilliant opportunity to take part in The Hundred for the first time and I’m looking forward to being a part of a talented squad.

“The Hundred is a competition every player wants to be involved in, and I’m really looking forward to learning from the group and contributing wherever I can.”

On the men’s side, Owen arrives as an explosive Australian top-order batter. His powerplay impact and fearless intent make him a genuine game-changer in short-format cricket.

Best known for his performances as an opening batter in the Big Bash League, Owen combines clean striking with the ability to dominate pace from ball one. His capacity to score quickly and apply pressure has translated strongly across franchise environments as a proactive, front-foot opener capable of shifting momentum early and decisively.

“I’m really excited to be joining Birmingham Phoenix,” said Owen. “The Hundred is a competition I’ve watched closely, and the opportunity to play at a ground like Edgbaston and be part of a franchise with such a strong identity is something I’m really looking forward to.

“I feel like the format of The Hundred suits my style of play perfectly so hopefully I can get the fans off their seats and contribute to a successful campaign.”

Phoenix Performance Director James Thomas said: “Lucy and Mitch are two players we’re delighted to bring into the Phoenix environment.

“Lucy is a talented young bowler with great potential, and we believe this is the perfect setting for her to continue her development. Mitch adds power, versatility and competitive edge to our men’s squad, and his skillset suits the Hundred format extremely well.

“Both signings reflect our commitment to building strong, exciting teams across the men’s and women’s competitions.”

The additions of Hamilton and Owen further enhance Birmingham Phoenix’s squads as preparations continue for what promises to be another thrilling summer of Hundred cricket at Edgbaston in 2026.

The signings of Hamilton and Owen are the latest in an impressive string of signings for the Birmingham Phoenix in recent weeks, with Hamilton joining Alice Capsey, Lauren Filer and Ellyse Perry for Phoenix Women, while Owen is the third signing for Phoenix Men after Rehan Ahmed and Jacob Bethell.
