Birmingham Phoenix men will add leg-spin bowler Tanveer Sangha to the squad following Imran Tahir’s departure to the Caribbean Premier League.

The 20-year-old Australian will arrive later this week to prepare for the final fixture against London Spirit at Lord’s on Tuesday, and the knockout stages should Phoenix qualify.

The right-armer was the leading wicket taker at the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, claiming 15 wickets, and has since featured heavily for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash.

Craig Flindall, General Manager, said: “Tanveer is a promising leg-spinner and we’re delighted to welcome him to the squad.

“Naturally we’re disappointed to lose Imran, not only for what he brings on the pitch, but his enthusiasm and popular nature in the changing room.

“Tanveer will be a like for like replacement who we are looking to work with over the next few weeks.”

Imran will depart for the CPL after Sunday’s final home fixture against Manchester Original to play for the Guyana Amazon Warriors. So far this season, the 43-year-old has taken two wickets in five matches.
